Characterisation of severely deformed austenitic stainless steel wire

چکیده
The microstructure of 8 mm diameter wire produced by the severe deformation of 316L austenitic stainless steel has been examined using TEM and X-ray diffraction. The deformation imparted amounts to a true strain of 6.3. Data from previous studies on strain induced transformation of this steel have been combined with new results to show that true strains .2 are required in order to observe mechanical stabilisation, i.e. the cessation of martensitic transformation when the martensite/austenite interfaces are unable to propagate through the dislocation debris created in the austenite.

The combined effect of molybdenum and nitrogen on the fatigued microstructure of 316 type austenitic stainless steel
Introduction The mechanical properties of austenitic stainless steels, including the low cyclic fatigue behavior have been a subject of numerous studies [1-8]. Nitrogen addition, in general, increases the fatigue strength by decreasing the stacking fault energy of austenitic stainless steels [6]. The stacking fault energy has a strong influence on the cross slip difficulty, thus it affects the ...

Electron BackScatter Diffraction (EBSD) in conjunction with Field-Emission Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy (FEG-ESEM) has been used to evaluate the microstructural and local plastic strain evolution in different alloys (AISI 1005, AISI 304L and Duplex 2205) deformed by a single-stage cold and warm forging process. The present work is aimed to describe the different behavior of the au...
متن کاملCharacterization of Austenitic Stainless Steels Deformed at Elevated Temperature
Highly alloyed austenitic stainless steels are promising candidates to replace more expensive nickel-based alloys within the energy-producing industry. The present study investigates the deformation mechanisms by microstructural characterization, mechanical properties and stress–strain response of three commercial austenitic stainless steels and two commercial nickel-based alloys using uniaxial...
متن کاملEffect of plastic deformation on anelastic mechanical losses in multicomponent substitutional austenitic alloys
Complex two-component peak of anelastic mechanical losses was observed in multicomponent substitutional austenitic alloys after prior plastic deformation. In AISI 316L, AISI 316LN, AISI 310 and AISI 304 austenitic stainless steels, this peak is situated in the wide range of temperature from 200 to 400K. Characteristics of the observed peak for different thermo-mechanical treatments were studied...

Austenitic stainless steels offer good property combinations for structural component applications in demanding and aggressive environments, including nuclear power plants, where irradiation assisted degradation failures have been reported [1]. Enhanced irradiation tolerance has been reported for materials containing a high density of internal interfaces that act as point defect annihilation or...
